September 25, 2016 -  Presentation - Recognition for the Minister's wives for the Seagrave 110th Anniversary Service - Barb Martyn, Clerk of Session

This morning, I wish to recognize 3 dedicated women who have a very challenging role to play in the life of the church, generally ministering in the background. They are the wives of Rev. Richard, Rev. Ross and Rev. David.

They will often keep their husband's long hours, shoulder his pressures, feel his disappointment and suffer his defeats, analyze sermons and smile in the face of criticism.  Encouraging their husbands to support their vision that God has given them, and to provide the loving care that is so vitally needed, providing their personal gifts and placing balance in the ministry and their marriage. The minister and his wife are a team who are yoked together to do God's work.

I wish to read a poem that was written by Helen Bush:

When we thank God for our minister
We must give him thanks for two,
For when your husband came to us
God also sent us you.

A minister's wife must be many things,
You have many hats to wear;
And we say thanks for all you do
And lift you up in prayer.

You adjust your life to meet the needs
Of your husband's congregation,
And it seems that you can always cope
With most any situation.

Your presence blesses all of us
Who know you from day to day,
As our minister's wives, you are serving God
In a fine and worthy way.

These 3 women we recognizing today, are Charlene, Ann and Marcia and I ask that you come forward.

On behalf of the Seagrave United Church congregation in appreciation for who you are, and what you have and are contributing to our church family, I wish to present to you a token of our appreciation.
