September 21, 2018

112 Years and we continue to strengthen in purpose, faith and aid to our community. But of course, there is more we’re hoping to do and more that needs doing – together with thanks and appreciation for your support.

We believe the community appreciates the presence of a spiritual place, a place of gathering and of community spirit. A place where people can help make our little town and the surrounding community feel smaller, friendlier, safer and more connected. Please help us with your support in continuing with these efforts.

If you would like to contribute to our 2018 canvass, please either mail your donation to the church, (15 Coryell St., Seagrave, ON L0C 1G0), or simply call any member of the Board of Stewards (listed below) to arrange for a canvasser to visit you. All donations will receive a charitable donation tax receipt (see end of letter for contact information).

On behalf of the Board of Stewards, thank you. Your time, donations and monetary support are key to keeping a thriving church in our community. Your support has kept this little church functioning for 112 years. Let’s make it another 112

In January, we welcomed our new minister, Stephanie Richmond. You are invited to come out and meet her and enjoy her most interesting services. Stephanie has office hours at Greenbank U.C. Thursdays 10-2. She can be reached at 905-718-8086 or ssutchrichmond@gmail.com

Sunday services take place at 9:15 a.m., with special services to mark Remembrance Day (a good heartfelt tribute to the fallen), Mother’s and Father’s Days and of course special attention to Easter and Christmas Celebrations.

All Sunday services include a friendly gathering over coffee, tea and treats in the Great Room. Everyone leaves feeling better. Guests of all denominations and faith are welcome- especially during Christmas and Easter. In fact it might surprise and encourage you to know that many denominations are represented by our congregation.

At this time we are looking to hire a Sunday School Teacher. Please give us a call if you feel you could help us out. NEW! Ukulele lessons for up to 6 children runs the weeks of October 14-November 25. Call Betty Lou Beacock, 905-985-3595, for info or to register.

Our Mission work is strong thanks to the leadership of Tara Taylor and the community.

The Milk Bag for Mats program assembled a record # of sleeping mats to be sent to third world countries. This is a very important health initiative and we thank those who donated bags, (keep them coming), but especially those who volunteer to weave the mats.
The Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Gift Program kicks off in November. Last year our Seagrave community put together nearly 100 gift boxes delivered to children living in war, poverty, and disaster. Imagine, in that environment what a special feeling to receive a thoughtful gift.

It is the support of the community that enables us to lend a helping hand to those in need, including when needed, members of our own community. Through Operation Scugog we sponsored a family at Christmas. This fall we are collecting non-perishable food for the Scugog Food Bank. We collected winter coats, hats, mitts and clothing which were given to the homeless in Oshawa.

We maintain our gathering place ……

One important note with respect of the building repair, maintenance and improvement- the stewards work hard to keep our costs down by having items or labour donated whenever possible, and by purchasing good used equipment. Here are a few things that were accomplished this year: our “dine safe” sticker was maintained; the bathroom has been remodeled more accessible toilets, a new sink, flooring and fresh paint; we purchased a used Sea Container for Church storage; we received a grant to upgrade our A/V system and we now record our services and post them to www.Seagrave-Church.com for those unavailable to attend in person.

It is our desire to have our “little church with the big heart” grow and continue its services and outreach to the community.
